It took just two hours and eight minutes for Bryce Jarvis and the Duke Blue Devils to make history. With 15 strikeouts and only two flyouts, the Duke ace dominated Cornell's lineup en route to a Perfect Game.Â
Jarvis flummoxed Cornell, working through nine innings on just 94 pitches. Only one Cornell batter managed to work a full count before Jarvis struck him out looking (one of seven times in the game that Cornell batters were caught looking). Twice Jarvis struck out the side, including in the ninth inning to clinch the Perfect Game.Â
After starting the season on the Golden Spikes Watch List, Jarvis has lived up to expectations so far. He has allowed only one earned run in his 13 innings pitched, good for a 0.69 ERA.
Jarvis's next start will likely be in U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis when Duke competes in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
The win puts Duke at 4-1 on the season, while Cornell moves to 0-1. The two teams resume action at 1 PM ET on Saturday.
